I wish I knew.
During off-peak hours or when I'm in a less crowded district of Ascalon City, I sometimes turn local on to see if there are any new players asking honest questions can I can answer.
Quite often, I see players with waterfalls behind their ears wanting to sell their pre-searing armour for money. And just as often, I'll whisper to them informing them that armour is customised and cannot be worn by anyone else.
I can't count the number of times the recipient gets surly, ticked off and downright abusive back at me for giving them a basic piece of game info.
There was this one special guy. I call him special for reasons you'll see.
He responded with the usual 'LIAR'. But then he continued with something along the lines of:
'i challenge ur lie come to gate'
So fine, I heaved and internal sigh and headed over to see what his challenge was about. He dealt me the armour piece in question and insisted I put in 189g into trade. I don't know what for but I humoured him.
As always, I'm proven right and the item is customised to him. So I cancel the trade and ask if his visually impaired. Maybe he had a rare disease that rendered him blind to grey words, you never know.
He keeps on trading me the piece. And I keep refusing the trade. He then begins whispering 'SCARED' to me. Yes, yes I fear your mighty piece of used armour. So I tell him he's a waste of oxygen and leave to do my own thing.
I didn't notice at first but he'd run up next to me and began calling me a 'preverted as holebeatch' in local. I assume he was attempting to insult. Others standing around asked him what on earth was he talking about, and he was finally convinced armour is customised. He just didn't want to believe the 'noob jerk' who was telling that to him at the start.
Okay, so I wasn't on my main toon, merely a level 14 in gladiator armour dyed barbie pink. Still, that's rich coming from a level 7 (or was it 8?) fellow.
The best part was that he began spamming guild recruitment messages in local, extolling the helpful, friendly people in his guild.
People like that make me wonder why I even bother to try.

Oh man just a few hours ago I ran into someone at Droknar's selling silver dye at 2k. 4 people, including me, told him the price was at 600 at the trader's and he went ballistic - coming back at us with I DUN GIVE A S!!!!! WUT U PPL THINK.
Not too long after he told me not to mess with Crips and that if I ever came to his neighborhood I wouldn't come alive.
Judging by his stupidity for even mentionning being a crip let alone assume that helps him win the argument, I'll take it he meant come OUT alive.
The funniest part is, HE put ME on his ignore list. I usually rumble with the offender for a while to see how long it takes for them to start babbling nonsense into their arguments, but I couldn't help but recide what he said to the whole district with him inside and spill my soup in laughter. Good greave, the people in this game.

Some say that "Intelligence is constant and the population is growing".
If that works in real-life, why shouldn't it work in an online-game.
Check out eBay for e.g. DVDs. Somtimes the prices get higher than those you'd pay for shopping at amazon.

It kills me when I see "minor unid runes for 1k!!!!" in the trade window, or even that one time "2x Iron for 25k". Dunno what was so special about that iron, but I know some superior runes aren't even worth 1k...

Unidentified runes means you can unlock them, and considering you can't unlock major/superior runes with faction points until you've unlocked the accompanying minors, buying a bunch of relatively cheap minors for unlocking is a very sensible way to avoid wasting faction points.
I recall someone was spamming to get 1000g for silver dye in Ascalon City as well, pointed out the trader sold them for 600g. After the usual tirade, he finally checked the trader, and adjusted his price down. And started spamming to sell it for 650g. Some people just won't ever get it.

Listening to idiots sounds like it is really fun, but, unfortunately, I almost never pay attention to local/trade chat, so I don't get the fun of telling someone the truth and being called a noob.

Wow, Sekkira, that picture is worth....2 words: Holy cow...!
I don't know what it is with people and thinking that they can just behave any way they wish but it is symptomatic of online gaming. This is the same attitude and probably the same community that has been/is on Diablo 2: LoD.
Thank goodness we were given the ability to filter out various levels of chat and have the option to ignore idiots like the ones you all are talking about. As in everything, the squeaky wheels get the most notice. Most of the GW population are decent individuals.

So we all know about the prejudice against W/Mo's. (I didn't before I started reading this forum, but okay.)
This necro in pvp says right before the start of the match, "What is it with all the w/mos?" (We had two on our team.) "Worst character."
This is the sort of morale boost we need right before the match, right?
Anyway, I said, "Thanks, teammate."
We kicked butt, and I said, "Worst character."
He said, "Just stating a fact."
When he was laying there dead I should not have wasted my energy rezzing him, but I did. That must be why I am the worst character.

This is a problem caused by the game being far far far too easy. it encourages people that aren't generally interested in gaming to come along and be "UBER SUPERIOR"....See these people are interested in the attention...not the fun of the game. This happens in ALL games that are too easy. The most obvious is Counter Strike...6 years ago when it first came out it had a HUGE community of players that were looking to help eachother...learn new strats...and overall achieve a level of skill in a game for the FUN....then hacks came along and now it's a community filled with people looking for attention.
Make the game easy enough and the attention seekers will seek it out.
My biggest complaint from the very beginning of this game is that it was far far far too easy.

Anyway, I had a funny experience. One time I was selling an item and got PM'ed that the price was to high. I replied politely that it was to compensate for haggling, a buisness practice I learned from a guildie who has more platinum then he knows what to do with. So the jerk starts spamming my whisper channel, which I always keep open in-case a guildie needs my help. So, like any other disgruntled player, bam, ignore list.
2 weeks later I'm looking for a mission group and the same guy comes on the local chat with "wtf are you ignorin meh". I recounted the little story above and he has the balls to say "never done tat ----tard"
So I type in "nope, I just run around adding random people to my ignore list, here's your sign" (anyone who's seen Bill Engvall will get that)

usually if someone is resorting to inappropriate language such as that in your picture ... (I'm sure all of the mature ones here know this already) ... it means he is either 12-15 hiding behind a computer throwing vulgar language at somone and has a social disorder, or doesn't have the vocabulary to actually hold an arguement ... I dont understand some people either ...
ex. somebody selling there customized armor ... person A ... decids to help them out like a noble and weathered guildwars gamer does ... Seller responds spamming words like "STFU you jerkazz dum fuk ... u dead ... how about i put a hole in yer head u betch ... " ... yeah ... does anyone at all see how that is an arguement? Its not ... it doesn't hold an opinion, it doesn't contradict a point ... it actually works against the person, but 'alot' of teens these days (pardon my stereotype here) actually aren't smart enough to realize this.
I enjoy alot of the intellectual arguements I get into over profession combos, and strategies with some random people ... but to those that lack it, and then follow you around spamming useless jargon, I cant help but wonder where you went wrong?

There some honest players but unfortunately there's a whole lot of morons and idiots. I'm proud to be an honest player. Yesterday, I was looking to buy silver dye at Lion's Arch. It was very crowded at this district, so a lot of trading was going on. I guess it was The 4th of July special sale or something. Anyway, this guy offered to sale me the silver dye for 500g. I said "ok". I guess he was trading with someone else before me and had a lot in his mind. When I got to him, I offered 500g in the trade box. Instead of silver dye, he offered a max damage chaos axe. If I clicked on "accept", the transaction would have been made. I could've gotten a max damage chaos axe for 500g. Now that's a bargain wouldn't you say? But instead of taking advantage of his mistake, I informed him that he made a mistake and that I wanted silver dye. He thank me for not ripping him off and he switched the item to silver dye for 100g less because of my honesty. It wasn't really my lost since I have about 40K in my account thanks to good old superior vigor

You know whats worse? The people who come onto the forums to whine about it.
Most people accept it as a fact of live, and ignore it. You however feel the need to show your utmost superiority by posting this crap.
So what? Have a tissue. It happens, get over it.
